Electric fencing is a great solution for containing your horses and ponies, due to its flexibility, customisability and cost effectiveness compared to regular steel or wooden rail alternatives.

Horses are powerful, intelligent animals that require secure, highly visible fencing to keep them safely contained. Unlike cattle or sheep, horses can be more easily startled and are far more likely to injure themselves if they run into a poorly designed fence. For that reason, electric fencing has become one of the most popular choices for horse owners. When installed correctly, it provides a safe, cost-effective and flexible way to manage paddocks while encouraging horses to respect the fence without causing injury.

[A] - Wooden Posts/Stakes

The post/stake is the foundation of your fence, which everything else is built upon. The humble wooden post in particular supports the fence line, providing a secure mounting point for insulators, maintains the correct height of each fence row and can withstand the constant tension created by the fencing.

A good, pressure-treated wooden post provides exceptional strength and stability, standing up to years of changing weather conditions, livestock pressure and the tension of the fence itself.

Even for less permanent requirements we recommend the use of wooden posts for corners, ends and gateways of a fence. These are the locations where the tape is tensioned and where the greatest forces are placed on the fence. This gives you secure anchor points to terminate and tension the tape correctly, while still allowing the convenience and flexibility of lightweight plastic posts along the rest of the fence line.

[B] - Poly Tape

We recommend 40mm tape because its wide profile is much easier for horses to see than poly wire. It is also much safer, as it is less likely to cause harm to the animal should it attempt a break out and become entangled. 

Premium tapes by brands such as Rutland or Gallagher offer better strength, rigidity and conductivity, A worth while investment for more permanent fences.

Insulators

[C] - Free-running Tape Insulator

Free-running insulators are a basic tape insulator, the poly tape can be slotted into the clip, and is allowed to freely move back and forth. Ideal for intermediate posts. A secure and cost effective method to get your fence up.

[D] -  Tape Strain (Corner) Insulator

Tape clamp style insulator, fitted with a rubber pad for solid gripping power. Can be reversed to be used with poly wire. Ideal for keeping tension in fence sections, securing corners or for the start/end of your fence.

[E] -  Tape Tensioner Insulator

Tensioning insulator that can be used to tighten tape across fence sections. The rotating screw can be turned and locked in place, to easily add or remove tension in the tape line.
